Los Angeles California is one of the most amazing cities to live in. The weather is perfect and the people are amazing. Living in Los Angeles, however, is expensive. The latest numbers from the Neighborhood Data for Social Change indicates that 90% of renters spend more than 30% of their paychecks on housing and homeownership has dropped to 45%. In an effort to solve this housing crisis, the city has invested nearly $100 million in new funding which has led to the production of many Accessory
Dwelling Units (ADUs) and lot subdivisions (LAcity.gov).
ADUs are additional living spaces that can be more affordable to live in. They can be detached units, Garage Conversions, or basement conversions (see some examples here). Generally, these spaces are smaller than an average single-family home or condo. The smaller space creates a challenge when it comes to furnishing and design.
Here are a few things to consider if you are considering moving into a smaller space:
What pieces of furniture are absolutely necessary
What type of look do you want for your space. Some examples of this could be a modern guest house, cozy suite, or minimalist office space.
Where do you plan on spending the most of your time.
How often do you plan on having guests over
These questions can help you make the most of your small space home. At Smart Space Interiors, we can help you plan the perfect design. Our in-house design specialists are familiar with all types of furniture pieces and design themes. We source our products locally and can make custom edits as necessary.
